Prinipal Features
15500 (15-5PH/XM-12/0Cr15Ni5Cu3Nb) is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel with 15% Cr, 5% Ni, 3.5% Cu and 0.3% Nb/Cb. The grade combines high mechanical properties and medium corrosion resistance. The grade combines good strength, transverse toughness and ductility, hardness capability and corrosion resistance compared with 304 stainless steel. It may be used in the solution treated condition or heat treated to obtain a wide variety of properties. S15500 is similar to the S17400 (17-4PH) having equivalent mechanical properties. Due to the lower Chromium content and increased Nickel content S15500 contains less ferrite which provides better through thickness properties particularly when considering thick plates.

Main Application

The main applications are those of VIRGO 17-4 PH grade i.e. mechanical components and offshore industry, aircraft components, fabricated parts in high pressure corrosive environments including valves, shafts, fasteners, fittings and gears.
