Principal Features
N08904(F904L/904L) is an austenitic stainless steel alloy designed for a middle to high level of corrosion resistance. The alloy is produced to low carbon levels for use in the welded condition as in welded vessels and other large and complex fabrications. The high nickel (25%) and molybdenum (4.5%) contents of the N08904 alloy provide good resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, although not total resistance as judged by the extremely severe laboratory test, boiling magnesium chloride. It is standardized and approved for pressure vessel use in several countries. Structurally, N08904 is fully austenitic and is less sensitive to precipitation ferrite and sigma phases than conventional austenitic grades with high molybdenum content.N08904 is alloyed with nitrogen to increase its structure stability and corrosion resistance. Due to combined additions of chromium (20%), molybdenum (4.3%), copper (1.5%) combined with its high nickel content, the grade is recommended for most applications dealing with medium to severe corrosive solutions,

particularly used in sulphuric and phosphoric acids applications. The localized corrosion resistance of N08904 is much higher than that of alloy 825.

Main Application
N08904 Alloy has performed well in a variety of service environments such as utility scrubbers, acid and fertilizer production. It is particularly used in sulphuric and phosphoric acids applications. Production and transport of sulfuric acid. Production and concentration of phosphoric. Use in seawater, brackish water ,condensers, heat exchangers and pipe work. Paper and allied industries. Gas washing. Chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
